Jacques Villeneuve came to F1 from CART racing
in 1996. In his first F1 weekend he nearly had the perfect start to his
career. He took pole position ahead of Damon Hill the eventual WC, and
led for 55 of the 58 laps, but then an oil leak put pay to his victory.
In the end Villeneuve came runner up in 1996, and then had a great
season long battle with Schumacher in 1997, but eventually Villeneuve came
out on top.
However Villeneuve has had a very bad 1998 season as he Williams
car has proved to be not very good.
He has taken a very bold move for next year though as he has signed
to be a driver in the new BAR team, which will be run by his old CART manager. |
